IPF Field Studies

Economic Analysis

Reflective practice for change

This online course, inspired by Paulo Freire's critical social analysis, guides participants through a comprehensive economic fieldwork programme designed to develop a deep understanding of the economic dynamics within various environments. Over ten sessions, learners engage with foundational economic concepts, progressing through layered observations of local, national, and international economies.
The course begins with an introduction to economic terminology and mapping economic zones, and progresses to detailed studies of economic activities, socio-economic classes, and international economic relations. Participants will analyze contradictions within economies, evaluate the impact of development programmes, and synthesize their observations into a coherent analytical framework.

The final project involves creating an Economic Analysis Workbook, integrating all course learning into a reflective and practical resource. This course is ideal for individuals and organizations aiming critically to analyze and contribute to economic analysis with an approach approach that combines academic knowledge with practical grounding.
